How do I apply?

  1. Submit a Summer Service Profile: Go to www.NLOMA.org to check out our partner camps and identify two at which you might like to serve. Then complete the NLOMA Summer Service Profile. If you are interested in being considered by Walcamp specifically, select us as your first choice camp.
  2. Interview: Once your Summer Service Profile is submitted, your first choice camp will reach out and schedule and interview with you.
  3. Be patient: After your interview, your first choice camp will let you know when to expect to hear back from them. Walcamp will be making hiring decisions in mid-February during the Joint Recruitment Round-up day. If your first choice camp passes on your application, expect to be contacted by another camp for another interview or a job offer.
  4. Decide to Accept the Position: If a camp contacts you and offers you a job, you have a decision to make! Let the camp know if you will be joining them this summer at camp!
  5. What if my first choice camp doesn’t hire me? NLOMA is looking to fill over 500 positions this summer across the United States. We strongly encourage you to keep your heart and mind open to wherever the Lord may be calling you this summer! Whichever camp you serve at will offer a life changing experience.

Take a leap of faith and answer the calling God has set before you!

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the qualifications to be on Walcamp Summer Staff?
Our summer staffers are Christian role models who exemplify being Christ-centered, servant-hearted, passionate, adaptable, and enthusiastic. All applicants must be 18 years or older. It is preferred for applicants to be at least one year out of high school, but newly graduated seniors are still encouraged to apply.

When does summer start?
Walcamp summer staff will need to report to camp on May 18, 2025. This will begin a two week training period. Summer camp programming begins on June 2, 2025 with our Day Camp Program.

When does summer end?
The final day with campers is July 30, 2025. However, that following weekend will be used to prepare Walcamp for the retreat season and to process the summer together as a community. Summer Staff is free to leave August 3, 2025.

What if my family already has a vacation scheduled?

Indicate the dates you are hoping to be off on your Summer Service Profile and share about it in the interview. Our leadership team will make time off decisions based upon our programmatic needs. We will do our best to accommodate your schedule, but cannot guarantee time off in the summer.

Why am I applying through NLOMA?
Walcamp participates in joint recruitment through the National Lutheran Outdoors Ministry Association. This allows us to share resources with camps across the country and provide the best opportunities to our candidates. The entire process is covered in prayer from people at all of these camps, who desire to place the candidates' needs and best interests above their own. If you would like to be specifically considered by Walcamp, mark us as your “first choice” camp on the Summer Service Profile.
