Alumni Gather and "Come Home" This Summer

As part of our commitment to reconnect with our Alumni, Walcamp hosted two dedicated Alumni Reunion Weekends during the months of June and July. These gatherings were held so that former summer and year-round staff could "come home" and spend time relaxing and enjoying the things that they love and remember about camp.

It's hard to find time in our busy schedules to allow for the opportunity to just sit and listen. One of our alumni shared that she loves to "be in the peace and quiet of camp".

We want to find ways to bring others out to experience that peace and quiet. Do you have connections with counselors from your years at camp? Who do you know that you could invite to come and relax in God's creation? Contact [email protected] to share your thoughts and ideas and maybe even become an Alumni Representative so that we can stay connected and find ways to keep Walcamp growing for decades to come.

Congregation Ambassador Program Looks To Launch This Summer - We Need YOU

Walcamp is blessed to be part of the greater LCMS church body here in the Northern Illinois District and throughout the nation. Many of you are active in your home congregations and have a connection to Walcamp. We are looking for great people, like YOU, to join the Congregation Ambassador Program and help keep our churches in the loop with ALL of the great things happening at Walcamp. The commitment is small and all we ask is that you share information with your home church and then share with us what your church needs.

Will you consider serving as the ambassador for YOUR congregation?

New Teacher of the Week Program Partners with Summer Day Camp

This season, we started a new program as part of our commitment to developing strong leaders in the Lutheran church and greater community. Our Teacher of the Week Program combines some of our great Lutheran school teachers and their years of experience with our Summer Counselors as they serve in our growing day camp program. Throughout the summer, several teachers have signed up to partner with our summer counselors each week. These teachers bring with them the knowledge that can help provide guidance and tools to our dedicated counselors as they begin their journey in serving Christ as leaders for our youth. Mentoring and teaching come naturally to these amazing people.

One of our teachers, Diane, shared this; "There is a joy being here at camp in God's creation and working with young adults and kids. These counselors spend their time pouring into the campers and I can, in return, pour into them."

Walcamp is devoted to building up strong leaders for the future, and we are excited to see this program grow. If you are a teacher, or you know a teacher who might be interested in serving in this program in the future, please email Ducky (Lindsey) to learn more.

Board Brief - An Update from Our Walcamp Board of Directors

Greeting from the Walcamp Board of Directors.

First, we would like to welcome our newest board member, Susan Hammack, to the team. Susan is a long-time friend of Walcamp as well as a former board member. That brings our team back up to eight. We are still looking to fill the treasurer position. If you or someone you know would be interested in finding out more about this position or the board in general, you can email [email protected]

As we look forward to celebrating Walcamp’s 60th anniversary next year, the board continues to define and refine its vision for the ministry over the next several years. Much of the discussion during our monthly meetings revolves around this all-important topic. We look forward to sharing that vision with all of you sometime during our anniversary celebration.

We ask for your prayers for wisdom, protection, and blessing for ourselves, our executive director, Bill, and the whole Walcamp staff, as we seek to fulfill the calling our Lord has given us and meet our times' challenges. If you haven’t been out to camp in a while, I invite you to do so and see some of the improvements that

have been made over the last few years. All of the buildings have gotten a “facelift.” The pavilion will soon have a kitchen and storage area added. The climbing wall and zip line have been a great blessing. And so much more. I’m sure Bill would love to give you a guided tour on the golf cart.

Thanks again for your prayers and support of Walcamp. Please continue to pray, visit and support Walcamp so that people of all ages can explore creation, exalt Christ, and be equipped for service back home and beyond.

Blessings,

Pastor Bill Ryden

Board President
